URZĄD PRZYJEMNOŚCI
A WORLD PREMIERE FROM THE MULTI-AWARD WINNING BELARUS FREE THEATRE
Urząd Przyjemności is the latest stage production from one of the world’s bravest theatre companies: Belarus Free Theatre.
Conceived and performed by members of the troupe, now based in exile in Poland, the show takes audiences on a rock-infused journey through the surreal landscapes of migration and identity.
Step inside the Office for Foreigners and enter a nightmarish, bureaucratic world of silence, pain, and psychological violence. Endless waiting, incomprehensible forms, mindbending jargon — a dehumanising system is reimagined in this apocalyptic tragicomedy that blends surrealism, dark humour, and raw political insight.
But this is not an accusation directed at any particular institution or state. It is a story about the universal human experience — how anyone, lost in a maze of forms, decisions, and office queues, can feel powerless and disoriented. The creators do not attack, but observe the system with irony, empathy, and a sharp, dark sense of humour.
This is not a play about migrant status.
It’s about the migrant condition.
Over the past two decades, Belarus Free Theatre has brought together politics and art on the world stage to build a movement for democracy, human rights and freedoms.
To celebrate this landmark 20th anniversary year, every ticket holder for Urząd Przyjemności will be offered a complimentary invitation to a special screening of the documentary film, Centralny. Filmed in Minsk seven years ago, Centralny explores the life of a legendary department store in the heart of the city. It was more than a supermarket: it was a gravitational centre. Today, Centralny still stands, but many of its characters are gone. Some have left the country. Some have vanished. The country itself has changed. The film is an unforgettable snapshot of the kind of everyday freedom that no longer exists in Belarus.
